After visiting Death Valley National Park my buddy Barney and I headed over to the coast. My buddy Mark at Really Right Stuff spent half a day with us showing us around his neighborhood. Unfortunately the skies were without clouds, however the sky was really orange and made for great silhouette sunset images. We got lucky the first evening stumbling into a great location and captured some great images. We met up with Mark the following morning and he took us around his stomping ground. We didn’t get started too early, but Mark did have some great locations to share. It was midday when we got started so the skies were clear and blue. Mark had to break away and told us where we should try for a sunset down at the pier. We walked down to the beach that evening and gave it our best. With some locals walking around on the beach it made for some interesting Silhouette Sunset images.
The next morning we headed back to Vegas with a stop at my buddy Silvio’s camera store. I picked up a brand new 24mm tilt shift lens for some upcoming commercial work. Had a bite to eat and it was traffic, traffic, traffic all the way home. I love to visit California, but man the traffic is awful. Just before the Nevada state line is ZZYZX road, I had heard it was an abandoned resort so we decided to poke around and check it out. We drove around the area for an hour or so and didn’t find the place, we did find a state run desert research facility. Unfortunately I can’t tell you more about that location, but I’m glad we had a look around.
